About this book

Oxford Primary Mathematics, Practice Workbook 5 (Updated Edition) is the written-practice partner of the Class 5 Students’ Course Book in Army Public Schools. The cover says ‘Supplementary Reading Material’, shows wind turbines, and credits Dr Foong Pui Yee, Dr Yeap Ban Har, Brandon Oh and Lim Li Gek Pearlyn. It is published by Oxford University Press Pakistan. Available to order now for the 2027-28 session.

The publisher describes the Practice Workbooks as worksheets that consolidate and practise concepts from the main coursebooks, with Math Lab Activity worksheets for hands-on engagement and a glossary reviewing key mathematical terms. For a Class 5 child this means a place to practise, again and again, the skills that the Course Book teaches once.

What the workbook practises

In Classes 1 to 4 the Practice Workbook follows the Course Book chapter for chapter, with the same chapter titles, and the Class 5 Workbook is built the same way. The Class 5 Course Book’s chapters, which this workbook practises, are:

  • Chapter 1: Numbers up to 10 Million, including divisibility rules, prime and composite numbers, HCF, LCM, and square and cube numbers.
  • Chapter 2: Four Operations with 6-digit numbers, 3-digit multipliers and 2-digit divisors.
  • Chapter 3: Algebra, using letters for unknown quantities.
  • Chapter 4: Fractions: comparing, adding and subtracting unlike fractions and mixed numbers, multiplying and dividing.
  • Chapter 5: Ratio and equivalent ratios.
  • Chapter 6: Decimals, from comparing and rounding to division, order of operations and unit conversion.
  • Chapter 7: Percentage.
  • Chapter 8: Average.
  • Chapter 9: Rate and the Unitary Method.

The workbook also includes Math Lab Activity worksheets (hands-on investigations) and a glossary of key terms near the back, as the publisher describes.

About the contents page

We do not have a clear photograph of this workbook’s own contents page, so we have listed the chapters of the matching Course Book rather than the workbook’s page numbers. If you need the workbook’s exact lesson list before ordering, message us on WhatsApp and we will check our copy and reply.

A study plan for the Practice Workbook

A workbook helps most when it is used little and often. One simple plan for the Class 5 year, following the Course Book’s chapter order, is:

  • Weeks 1 to 4: Chapter 1, large numbers, HCF, LCM, squares and cubes. Do two pages a day and learn the divisibility rules by heart.
  • Weeks 5 to 8: Chapter 2 (four operations) and Chapter 3 (algebra). Practise long division daily; five sums are enough.
  • Weeks 9 to 14: Chapter 4, fractions. Take it slowly; this is the longest chapter and the one most students find hardest.
  • Weeks 15 to 18: Chapter 5 (ratio) and Chapter 6 (decimals). Use recipes and pocket money for examples.
  • Weeks 19 to 22: Chapter 7 (percentage), Chapter 8 (average) and Chapter 9 (rate and the unitary method). Use the Math Lab Activity worksheets as a change of pace.
  • Before exams: go back to the weakest chapter, and use the glossary to check any word you are unsure of.

Why a separate workbook?

The Course Book explains and demonstrates; it does not have room for a child to repeat each skill twenty times. The Practice Workbook supplies that repetition, with the same chapter order, so that a topic taught on Monday can be practised on Monday evening. Parents can also see at a glance how much their child has done.

Who, when and how

It is for Class 5 students at Army Public Schools, used alongside the Students’ Course Book. Do the workbook pages for a topic the same evening it is taught, and use the glossary to check any maths word the child is unsure about.

  • What: Practice Workbook 5, Updated Edition.
  • Whom: Class 5 students.
  • Why: written practice that mirrors the Course Book.
  • Where: home and school.
