About this book

The Activity Book of Cambridge Global English, APSACS Edition (Third edition), Level 5 is the practice partner of Learner’s Book 5 for Class 5 in Army Public Schools. It is published by Cambridge University Press and ‘Based on National Curriculum of Pakistan 2022, 2026 edition’. The purple cover shows two children painting a snail on an easel. Available to order now for the 2027-28 session.

The Activity Book has nine units with the same six lessons each, ending in a Unit Revision and a ‘My global progress’ self-check. By Class 5 the lessons are real writing tasks: profiles, health blogs, biographies, leaflets and presentations.

Full table of contents: Units 1 to 9, every lesson and page

Every lesson title is listed below exactly as printed, with its page number.

Unit 1: Talking about people

  • 1. Describing people (p. 4)
  • 2. Our profiles (p. 6)
  • 3. An interview (p. 8)
  • 4. Favourite things (p. 10)
  • 5. My favourite people (p. 12)
  • 6. Unit 1 Revision (p. 14)
  • My global progress (p. 15)

Why it helps: Describing people and writing profiles give a child a framework for any piece of personal writing. The interview lesson practises writing questions.

Unit 2: Staying healthy

  • 1. Common illnesses (p. 16)
  • 2. Fever (p. 18)
  • 3. Food and health (p. 20)
  • 4. Health blogs (p. 22)
  • 5. Stone Soup (p. 24)
  • 6. Unit 2 Revision (p. 26)
  • My global progress (p. 27)

Why it helps: Health blogs are a modern writing form that children enjoy, and Stone Soup brings in a classic folk tale with a lesson about sharing.

Unit 3: Where we live

  • 1. Describing places (p. 28)
  • 2. Our carbon footprint (p. 30)
  • 3. Past and present (p. 32)
  • 4. Favourite fictional places (p. 34)
  • 5. The Lost City (p. 36)
  • 6. Unit 3 Revision (p. 38)
  • My global progress (p. 39)

Why it helps: Carbon footprint is a topic children hear about at school and at home. Writing about it in English connects language to real-world responsibility.

Unit 4: Celebrations

  • 1. Describing celebrations (p. 40)
  • 2. The Rio Carnival (p. 42)
  • 3. Personal celebrations (p. 44)
  • 4. Favourite things (p. 46)
  • 5. Horrid Henry’s Birthday party (p. 48)
  • 6. Unit 4 Revision (p. 50)
  • My global progress (p. 51)

Why it helps: A humorous story (Horrid Henry) and a world festival (the Rio Carnival) show contrasting styles, and the child writes about their own celebrations.

Unit 5: Famous people

  • 1. Professions (p. 52)
  • 2. Famous people and their work (p. 54)
  • 3. A presentation about a famous person (p. 56)
  • 4. A short biography (p. 58)
  • 5. Extracts from The Stowaway (p. 60)
  • 6. Unit 5 Revision (p. 62)
  • My global progress (p. 63)

Why it helps: Writing a short biography and preparing a presentation are core Class 5 skills. The extract from The Stowaway gives practice in reading a longer narrative.

Unit 6: Myths and fables

  • 1. Understanding myths and legends (p. 64)
  • 2. Fables (p. 66)
  • 3. Telling an anecdote (p. 68)
  • 4. Lessons in life (p. 70)
  • 5. The Lambton Worm (p. 72)
  • 6. Unit 6 Revision (p. 74)
  • My global progress (p. 75)

Why it helps: Myths, fables and legends teach story structure, and ‘Telling an anecdote’ is a speaking and writing skill.

Unit 7: Ancient civilizations

  • 1. Ancient Egypt and Rome (p. 76)
  • 2. Egyptian pyramids (p. 78)
  • 3. Everyday life in ancient times (p. 80)
  • 4. Discoveries (p. 82)
  • 5. There’s a Pharaoh in Our Bath! (p. 84)
  • 6. Unit 7 Revision (p. 86)
  • My global progress (p. 87)

Why it helps: Ancient Egypt and Rome connect English with history, and the Pharaoh story is a funny way to end the unit.

Unit 8: Weather and climate

  • 1. Describing the weather (p. 88)
  • 2. Rainforests (p. 90)
  • 3. Extreme weather (p. 92)
  • 4. Rainforest animals (p. 94)
  • 5. A Visit with Mr Tree Frog and If I Were a Sloth (p. 96)
  • Unit 8 Revision (p. 98)
  • My global progress (p. 99)

Why it helps: Rainforests and extreme weather bring in strong science vocabulary, and the two rainforest poems give practice in reading poetry.

Unit 9: Planet Earth

  • 1. Food chains (p. 100)
  • 2. Animal camouflage (p. 102)
  • 3. Looking after pets (p. 104)
  • 4. Writing a leaflet (p. 106)
  • 5. Mum Won’t Let Me Keep a Rabbit (p. 108)
  • 6. Unit 9 Revision (p. 110)
  • My global progress (p. 111)

Why it helps: Writing a leaflet is persuasive writing in a practical form, and the closing story is a fun way to finish primary English.
