About this book

Life and Learning, Grade 2 is the Value Education book on the Allied School Class 2 list for the 2027-28 session, and carries the SRM (Supplementary Reading Material) mark. Its cover shows the five values it teaches as colourful slogans, each beside children and cartoon characters: ‘Do Good, Have Good’, ‘Give Respect, Get Respect’, ‘Let’s be honest, NO more Lies!’, ‘Try your best, Don’t give up’, and ‘Our duty is to be responsible, victory is only then possible’.

Parents often ask where good manners are taught. In an Allied School, this is the book. Five values, five chapters, each built the same way: a story, a story from the life of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) or a well-known Muslim figure, four activities and a signed ‘promise’ page, so the lesson ends with a commitment the child makes in their own words.

Full table of contents: five values, cut-outs and glossary

The contents page is printed as a table of serial number, topics and pages. Every entry is given below as printed, followed by what it builds.

1. Kindness

  • Be Kind to Others (pp. 01-04)
  • Kindness (pp. 05-06)
  • Activity 1 to 4 (pp. 07-12)
  • Kindness Promise (p. 13)

Why it helps: The book starts with kindness, the easiest value for a seven-year-old to understand and practise. Six pages of activities let a child act kindly in small, real ways, and the promise page makes it personal.

2. Respect

  • Ali and his Class Fellows (pp. 14-16)
  • Holy Rasool Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the Sour Grapes (pp. 17-18)
  • Activity 1 to 4 (pp. 19-22)
  • Respect Promise (p. 23)

Why it helps: Respect is taught through a classroom story titled Ali and his Class Fellows, and through a lesson on the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the sour grapes. It helps children see respect as how we treat teachers, friends and elders.

3. Honesty

  • Fatima’s Honesty (pp. 24-26)
  • Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jalani (pp. 27-28)
  • Activity 1 to 4 (pp. 29-32)
  • Honesty Promise (p. 34)

Why it helps: A story titled Fatima’s Honesty and a lesson on Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jalani give two models of honesty, one close to a child’s life and one from history. (The page number 33 does not appear in the printed list.)

4. Hard Work

  • The School Team (pp. 35-37)
  • Holy Rasool Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Companions (pp. 38-39)
  • Activity 1-4 (pp. 40-43)
  • Hardwork Promise (p. 44)

Why it helps: Hard work is taught through a team story and through the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions, showing a child that effort is respected in every setting.

5. Responsibility

  • Saira and Zain (pp. 45-48)
  • Tying the Camel (pp. 49-50)
  • Activity 1 to 4 (pp. 51-54)
  • Responsibility Promise (p. 55)

Why it helps: A story titled Saira and Zain and a lesson titled Tying the Camel, which brings to mind the well-known teaching to tie your camel and then trust in God. Together they link doing your own part with trusting in God.

6. Cut Outs

  • Kindness Activity 2 (pp. 56-57)
  • Honesty Activity 4 (pp. 56-57)

Why it helps: Two cut-out activities, one for kindness and one for honesty, turn the lessons into something a child can make with scissors and glue.

7. Glossary

  • Glossary (pp. 58-59)

Why it helps: A two-page glossary explains difficult words, so children can read the book without asking for help at every sentence.

Why value education belongs in the school bag

Marks measure what a child knows. Values shape what a child does with it. At seven, children are forming their idea of right and wrong, and a short book that gives them stories, tasks and promises is among the most effective tools a parent has. The ‘promise’ page at the end of each chapter is especially useful: parents can read it with the child and check it again a month later.

Who, when, where and how

Whom: Class 2 students at Allied Schools (about seven years old). When: through the 2027-28 session, one value every few weeks. Where: in class and at home. How: read the story aloud, do one activity, and talk about a time your child showed that value.
