Ready, Steady, Go… English, Early Years Stage II, First Term is the Nursery English book of the Army Public Schools & Colleges System. It teaches the first half of the English alphabet, letters A to M, and wraps every letter in a theme a four-year-old understands: my body, my family, my home, plants, fruit, animals, seasons and safety. Available to order now for the 2027-28 session.
The cover shows a giant red letter A beside the letters B and C, children flying paper planes and reading on a grassy hill, and a ‘First Term’ badge. The book is based on the National Curriculum of Pakistan 2022 and has lines for the child’s name, section and school on the front, so it can be used straight away.
Full table of contents: Units 1 to 6, every topic and page
Here is every entry exactly as printed, unit by unit. Letters appear in capital and small form (for example ‘Letter A a’), and ‘Reinforcement Activity’ pages are revision.
Unit 1: Letters A to C and ‘me, my home, my school’ (pages 1 to 8)
- Letter A a (p. 1)
- My Body (p. 2)
- My Family (p. 3)
- Letter B b (p. 4)
- My Home (p. 5)
- Rooms in my home (p. 6)
- Letter C c (p. 7)
- My School (p. 8)
Why it helps: The first unit introduces three letters and teaches the nouns a child uses every day: body parts, family members, rooms and school. Starting with ‘me’ means the child can answer the first questions in English, which builds confidence.
Unit 2: Letters D and E, plants, fruits and vegetables (pages 11 to 18)
- Letter D d (p. 11)
- Plants (p. 12)
- Parts of a Tree (p. 13)
- Reinforcement Activity (p. 14)
- Fruits (p. 16)
- Letter E e (p. 17)
- Vegetables (p. 18)
Why it helps: Plants, fruits and vegetables give children a rich set of everyday words (leaf, root, apple, carrot). The reinforcement page after ‘Parts of a Tree’ makes sure these words are recalled, not only seen.
Unit 3: Letters F and G, Pakistan and blending (pages 21 to 28)
- Letter F f (p. 21)
- Reinforcement Activity (p. 22)
- Flag of Pakistan (p. 23)
- Letter G g (p. 24)
- Important Personalites (as printed) (p. 25)
- Pakistan My Homeland (p. 26)
- Blending (p. 28)
Why it helps: Alongside two letters, this unit teaches national pride: the flag, important personalities and the homeland. ‘Blending’ is the first time the child joins sounds together to make a word, a milestone on the road to reading.
Unit 4: Letters H and I, farm animals, birds, insects and sea animals (pages 29 to 39)
- Letter H h (p. 29)
- Farm Animals (p. 30)
- Animals and their sounds (p. 32)
- Letter I i (p. 33)
- Birds & Insects (p. 34)
- Reinforcement Activity (p. 37)
- Sea Animals (p. 39)
Why it helps: Animals and their sounds are popular with children, so this unit keeps attention high while teaching categories: farm, air, sea. Matching an animal with its sound also builds listening skills.
Unit 5: Letters J, K and L, seasons and weather (pages 41 to 46)
- Letter J j (p. 41)
- Seasons (p. 42)
- Letter K k (p. 43)
- Weather (p. 44)
- Letter L l (p. 45)
- Weather (p. 46)
Why it helps: Seasons and weather are the first science vocabulary of Nursery. Two weather pages let the child practise describing the day in a few English words, a skill they can use every morning.
Unit 6: Letter M, safety, blending, story books and nursery rhymes (pages 47 to 58)
- Letter M m (p. 47)
- Sharp Objects (p. 48)
- Fire Safety (p. 50)
- Stranger is Danger (p. 51)
- Reinforcement Activity (p. 52)
- Blending (p. 55)
- Story Books (p. 57)
- Nursery Rhymes (p. 58)
Why it helps: Safety lessons (sharp objects, fire, strangers) are placed beside the last letter so that learning English is linked to staying safe. The blending page, story books and nursery rhymes at the end turn the alphabet into reading and singing, which is where the term should finish.
