About this book

Oxford New Secondary Science Workbook, Grade 7 (Second Edition) is the practice book that goes with the Class 7 science textbook in the Army Public Schools & Colleges System. It is written by David Coppock and published by Oxford University Press; the cover, like the textbook’s, shows wind turbines at sea, with a large 7 on the side, and it carries the APSACS logo. Available to order now for the 2027-28 session.

A textbook explains; a workbook tests. This workbook gives the student a dedicated set of exercises for every unit of the textbook, so that what was learned in class can be practised and checked at home.

What the workbook offers

According to the publisher, the workbook:

  • is a companion to the textbook that expands knowledge and assesses how well a student has understood each concept;
  • uses a step-by-step approach to make complex topics easier to grasp;
  • has a comprehensive contents section that gives the teaching objectives and learning outcomes for each unit;
  • includes ‘Test yourself’ sections after each unit to evaluate understanding and the ability to apply knowledge;
  • provides a clear, simple layout for review and reinforcement; and
  • has dedicated exercise sections for each textbook unit, so students can find out which topics need more study.

It covers physics, chemistry and biology topics aligned with the curriculum of Pakistan 2022 and relates science to students’ everyday experiences.

The textbook chapters it supports

The matching Grade 7 textbook is divided into three chapters, which the workbook’s exercises follow: Plant systems (transport in plants, transpiration, photosynthesis, minerals, respiration and gas exchange); the Human respiratory and circulatory system (breathing, the heart, blood and the pumping cycle); and Immunity and diseases (pathogens, the immune system, avoiding disease and strengthening immunity).

About the contents page

We do not have a clear photograph of the workbook’s own contents page, so we have listed the chapters of the matching textbook rather than the workbook’s page numbers. If you need the exact exercise list before ordering, message us on WhatsApp and we will check our copy and reply.

A study plan for the Workbook

The Grade 7 textbook has three long chapters, so the workbook is best used chapter by chapter. A simple plan is:

  • Plant systems: after each lesson, do the matching exercises. Draw and label a leaf, stem and root from memory, and write the word equations for photosynthesis and respiration until you can do them without looking.
  • Human respiratory and circulatory system: practise labelling the heart and the circulatory system. Do the pulse-rate experiment at home (rest, walking, running on the spot) and record your results in a table.
  • Immunity and diseases: list the diseases named in the textbook and, for each, write one line on how it spreads and one line on how it can be prevented.
  • Before exams: use the ‘Test yourself’ sections as a mini-test, mark them honestly and re-read the textbook pages for every question you missed.

Why a separate workbook?

Secondary science asks students to explain, compare, label, hypothesise and calculate. A workbook with a set of exercises for each textbook unit gives them practice in exactly those skills, and lets the teacher and parents see which topics need more attention.

Who, when and how

It is for Class 7 students at Army Public Schools, used alongside the Grade 7 textbook. Do the exercises for a unit after it has been taught, use the ‘Test yourself’ sections as a mini-test before exams, and note the questions that cause trouble so you can ask the teacher.

  • What: New Secondary Science Workbook, Grade 7, Second Edition, by David Coppock (Oxford).
  • Whom: Class 7 students.
  • Why: exercises and self-tests that match the textbook.
  • Where: home and school.
