About this book

My Activity Book of Letters and Sounds, Level 2 is the Nursery English activity book of The Educators Pre-School (a project of Beaconhouse, as printed on the cover), available to order now for the 2027-28 session. The cover is a sunny hillside with a big apple tree, a girl sitting in its shade and a boy running with a butterfly net, two butterflies and flowers, under the title in big red letters and the words “Level 2”.

The contents page, headed “Table of Contents”, runs to page 101. It is a very clear picture of how the book teaches: each letter of the alphabet gets three pages (identification, tracing and writing), and after every few letters there is a one-page recap. After Zz the book moves from letters to sounds and the first words. It is a book for pencil in hand, not just for looking at.

Full table of contents: every letter, recap and page

Every letter entry is titled “Identification, tracing and writing of letter” followed by the capital and small letter. Page numbers are as printed.

Letters Aa to Ff

  • Aa (p. 4), Bb (p. 7), Cc (p. 10), Dd (p. 13), Ee (p. 16), Ff (p. 19)
  • Recap of letters a-f (p. 22)

Why it helps: The book begins with six letters and then stops to recap, so a three- or four-year-old consolidates before moving on. Three pages per letter means the child sees the letter, traces it and writes it, each time a little more independently. Parents see progress every few days.

Letters Gg to Ll

  • Gg (p. 23), Hh (p. 26), Ii (p. 29), Jj (p. 32), Kk (p. 35), Ll (p. 38)
  • Recap of letters g-l (p. 41)

Why it helps: The second set uses the same rhythm, so the child already knows what to expect. Letters with tails and curves, such as Gg and Jj, take extra practice; the recap page is where a teacher or parent can see which ones still need attention.

Letters Mm to Rr

  • Mm (p. 42), Nn (p. 45), Oo (p. 48), Pp (p. 51), Qq (p. 54), Rr (p. 57)
  • Recap of letters m-r (p. 60)

Why it helps: This set includes the rounded letters (Oo, Pp, Qq) that need the most pencil control. Children who have practised their strokes on the earlier pages are better prepared for them, and the recap makes it visible who needs more time.

Letters Ss to Xx

  • Ss (p. 61), Tt (p. 64), Uu (p. 67), Vv (p. 70), Ww (p. 73), Xx (p. 76)
  • Recap of letters s-x (p. 79)

Why it helps: The longest stretch of the alphabet, but the same pattern holds: three pages, then a recap. Letters like Vv and Ww that look alike are practised on separate pages so they do not blur together.

Letters Yy and Zz

  • Yy (p. 80)
  • Zz (p. 83)
  • Recap of letters y-z (p. 86)

Why it helps: The last letters bring the alphabet to a close with a final recap. A child who reaches page 86 has written every letter of the English alphabet in both capital and small form.

Putting the alphabet together

  • Sequence of letters A-Z (p. 87)
  • Sequence of letters a-z (p. 88)
  • Missing letters Aa-Zz (p. 89)

Why it helps: Knowing the letters is one thing; knowing their order is another. These three pages ask the child to put letters in sequence and fill in the missing ones, which is the first step towards alphabetical order and using a dictionary in later classes.

From letters to sounds

  • Identification of initial sound (p. 90)
  • Identification of ending sound (p. 92)

Why it helps: This is the “Sounds” half of the title. Hearing the first and last sound of a word is the skill that comes right before spelling and reading, and it is the habit most Nursery teachers want children to have before Prep.

First words and rhymes

  • Two letter words (p. 93)
  • “-at” rhyming words (p. 95)
  • “-an” rhyming words (p. 96)
  • “-ug” rhyming words (p. 97)
  • “-ot” rhyming words (p. 98)
  • Recap of rhyming words (p. 99)
  • Read and write (p. 101)

Why it helps: Rhyming word families are how children discover that the same sounds make many words (for example, “-at” gives cat, hat and mat). The book gives four families and a recap, then ends with “Read and write”, where the child reads and writes the words they have learnt, so the book ends with a small success.

What your child gains

  • Confident recognition and writing of every English letter, capital and small.
  • A sense of the alphabet’s order, and the ability to find a missing letter.
  • The first and last sounds of simple words, the foundation of phonics.
  • First two-letter words and the first rhyming families (-at, -an, -ug, -ot).
  • Better pencil control and attention, thanks to short, regular pages.

Who, what, when, where and how

Whom: Nursery students of The Educators (about three to four years old). What: the Level 2 activity book of Letters and Sounds, with contents running to page 101. When: through the 2027-28 session; one letter every few days, with the recap page after each group. Where: at school, and at home at a small table with a thick pencil or crayon. How: say the letter name and sound aloud, trace it with a finger first, then with a pencil, and always finish with a sticker or a smile.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the textbook or the activity book?
This is the activity book: a child writes in it, so each child needs their own copy. A separate textbook, “My Book of Letters and Sounds, Level 2”, is the companion; ask us on WhatsApp if you need both.

Does it include phonics?
It teaches letter sounds, initial and ending sounds and rhyming word families, which are the building blocks of phonics.

Is it only for The Educators?
The cover carries The Educators Pre-School crest, so it is the edition made for their Nursery class. Parents of other schools can use it if they want a clear, step-by-step English start.
